Rome from above

You can get a view of the National Monument of Victor Emmanuel II or “Typewriter” from the Aventine Hill. A very peaceful spot in Rome with its Orange Garden. Enjoy the picturesque neighbourhood of Trastevere, which has been able to preserve most of its medieval cityscape. With its narrow winding streets and hidden squares, bakeries and legendary gelaterias (ice cream parlours), Trastevere offers a charming mixture of ancient and modern Rome.

Aventine Hill and the Orange Garden

Rom Aventin Sunflowers TourStart the day with a guided tour on the Aventine Hill on which ancient Rome was built. While rather ordinary people lived on the Aventine in the past, nowadays it is home to upper-class Romans. Here comes one of the best stops for a sightseeing tour with a camera. If you climb up the road a few metres, you will reach the Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta. Here is Rome’s most famous keyhole. When you gaze through it, you can look right at the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica.

Santa Sabina

Rom Santa Sabina Sunflowers TourRight next door, you can tour the Santa Sabina church, one of the most interesting early Christian basilicas in Rome. This Roman Catholic church is one of Rome’s oldest (built in AD 422-432) and has a richly ornate church door made from cypress wood dating back to 432 and thus one of the oldest doors in existence ever with stories from the Bible. According to legend, the church was established on the site of the former house where the martyr Sabina died in 125.

Tiber Island

Rom Tiber Insel Sunflowers Tour

Take another walk with the tour guide to Tiber Island, a picturesque island in Rome that has an interesting and controversial history. Legend has it that the hated tyrant Lucius Tarquinius Superbus was thrown into the river after his death in 510 BC, and the island emerged from the mud that accumulated around his body. This picturesque island is connected with the Ponte Fabricio, one of the city’s oldest bridges. Cross Rome’s oldest bridge (Ponte Fabritius).

Trastevere

Rom Trastevere Sunflowers Tour

Trastevere is one of the oldest and most distinctive neighbourhoods in Rome where you can discover life locally. Winding streets, castellated houses, picturesque squares and a large selection of cafés, restaurants and bars. There is no one who would not want to dine in Trastevere. Here you can discover authentic Roman cuisine and restaurants with a wonderful ambience and flair.

Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere

Rom Santa Maria in Trastevere Sunflowers Tour

The Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, Rome’s oldest church devoted to St. Mary, forms the centre of the Trastevere neighbourhood along with the square in front of it, and is without doubt the highlight of this district. The 12th-century mosaic inside the church is only surpassed in beauty by the 13th and 14th-century mosaics on the exterior façade. The basilica is magnificent to look at, especially during sunset.
